SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's soccer team fell to Oregon State, 3-1, in a Pac-12 Sunday matinee atop SDSU Sports Deck.
The Aztecs' record falls to 7-8-3 with the loss, 1-7-1 against conference opponents. The Beavers improve to 8-8-1 this season and have a 3-5-1 mark in Pac-12 play.
The Beavers put San Diego State keeper Nedin Tucakovic to work early in the match. At 4:23, the redshirt freshman was forced to make a diving stop after a left footed shot from Jordan Jones.
Leading Oregon State's attack, Jones scored his team's first goal of the match eight minutes later. The sophomore received a feed from Zach Striar near the endline and sent a low shot past Tucakovic for the 1-0 advantage.
San Diego State was nearly able to knot the score at the 41-minute mark. After a free kick, Mark Revell played the ball in to Travis Nicklaw, who was stationed 18 yards out. The San Diego native kicked a hard shot to the net but Beavers' keeper Nolan Wirth turned the ball away.
Just 35 seconds later, however, Oregon State doubled its lead. A play near the top of the box pulled Tucakovic out of his net and Jones was able to head in his second of the match to make the score 2-0.
The Aztecs came out from the halftime intermission with a chip on their shoulder and their aggressive attack paid off at 47:19. The Beavers were issued a foul and on the ensuing free kick from just outside the top right corner of the box, Ozzie Ramos sliced a low shot past Wirth's right side for his second goal of the season and the 2-1 tally.
Despite the majority of second half play occurring in Oregon State's third, the Beavers responded with an 85th minute goal, thanks to Don Tchilao, for the final 3-1 score.
In the match, both teams took 10 shots, with Nicklaw and Jones each recording five shots. Tucakovic made one save, as his record moved to 1-1-0. Wirth's four-save outing produced a 7-7-1 mark.
The Aztecs close out the regular season on Sat., Nov. 14 with a 7 p.m. match atop SDSU Sports Deck against UCLA.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Ozzie Ramos is the Aztecs' Man of the Match. He scored San Diego State's lone goal against Oregon State, his second goal of the season, while playing full-time.
