HEAD COACH Mike Shrader
San Diego State Head Coach Mike Shrader is in his ninth season with the Aztecs and has compiled a dual meet record of 109-15 (.879) during his tenure. Shrader has been named the Mountain West Coach of the Year on five occasions (2014, 2013, 2011, 2010, co-coach in 2009). Including eight seasons as head coach at Nevada, his career record is 198-27-1 (.878).
AZTECS RANKED
San Diego State is 41st this week in the Division I rankings published by CollegeSwimming.com. Nevada is the highest-ranked Mountain West team at 33rd while Boise State is just behind the Aztecs at 42nd. The Aztecs are sixth in this week's Division Mid-Major Poll (by CollegeSwimming.com) behind Nevada (second) and ahead of Boise State (seventh).
A RARE LOSS
San Diego State's loss to Washington State on Nov. 7 was the Aztecs' first dual meet loss at the Aztecs Aquaplex since falling to Wyoming on Jan. 31, 2009, a run of 51 consecutive home victories. SDSU's record at the Aztec Aquaplex now stands at 60-4 since the facility opened in the middle of the 2007-08 season.
SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Aztec senior Taylor Johnson was named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 10 for her performance in the double dual meet vs. New Mexico and Washington State on Nov. 7. During that meet Johnson won the 50 and 100 freestyle races with times of 23.15 and 51.26 respectively. She was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that set a pool record with a time of 1:33.07. Johnson also swam on the second-place 200 medley relay quartet (1:44.58).
ALL-TIME TOP 10s
The Aztecs have added a pair of times this season that enter the SDSU record book among the all-time top 10 marks. Freshman Rachael Kelch's time of 2:01.95 in the 200 butterfly during the double dual meet vs. New Mexico and Washington State on Nov. 7 ranks as the seventh-fastest in program history. In addition, the 200 freestyle relay mark of 1:33.07 turned in by Taylor Johnson, Cailey Steffens, Samantha Guttmacher and Whitney Weisz at that same meet ranks ninth all-time at San Diego State.
CAPLAN LEADS DIVERS
Sophomore Alexandra Caplan has been SDSU's top diver during the early portion of the 2015-16 season. She has won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the two meets this year at which there has been diving competition. Caplan's best mark of 304.80 on the 1-meter springboard ranks second in the Mountain West this season while her score of 308.85 on the 3-meter board ranks third. Fellow Aztec diver Makena Chamoures is also among the top 10 in the league on both boards with marks of 267.08 on the 1-meter (10th) and 275.03 on the 3-meter (6th).
UP NEXT
The Aztecs will next be in action on Friday. Dec. 18, when they visit Cal Poly for a dual meet scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m. at the Anderson Aquatic Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
