NEWS AND NOTES
* San Diego State opens a three-game homestand on Wednesday night when it welcomes San Diego Christian to Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena for what will be the school's 57th consecutive sellout.
* Prior to the game, the Aztecs will receive their 2014-15 Mountain West championship rings. SDSU will also recognize Winston Shepard for scoring his 1,000th career point Monday at Utah.
* The Aztecs and Hawks are meeting for the sixth straight season, all of which have occurred at Viejas Arena.
* SDSU is 5-0 all-time vs. San Diego Christian and has won by an average of 31.6 points.
* The Aztecs return home to familiar surroundings two days after suffering an 81-76 setback at No. 16/16 Utah on Monday.
* San Diego State is looking to avoid a two-game losing streak and the odds are in its favor considering the Aztecs have played 84 straight games without suffering consecutive losses.
* SDSU has responded from its last 20 defeats with a victory in its next game, which is the longest active streak in the country. On Wednesday, the Aztecs will look to make it 21.
* San Diego State has won 14 straight non-conference home games, which is tied for the fourth-longest streak in school history. A win would create a two-way tie for the third-longest streak in school history.
* SDSU carries a 94-7 record in its last 101 home games into the San Diego Christian contest.
* San Diego State is looking to avoid falling below .500 after three games since the 2002-03 campaign when it opened with a 1-2 record. Only twice has a Steve Fisher-led team been below .500 after the first three games (1999-00, 2002-03).
* The Aztecs are in the midst of a stretch where they will play seven games in 14 days. The San Diego Christian game is the third game for SDSU in five days with another coming on Saturday vs. Little Rock.
* Senior Winston Shepard needed 12 points to reach the 1,000-point scoring plateau at Utah and ultimately finished with a team-high 19 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 3FG, 5-6 FT). The Houston, Texas native, who is the 30th Aztec to reach the milestone, enters the San Diego Christian game with 1,007 points, which ranks 28th all-time. Next up is Tony Bland in 27th place with 1,012 career points.
* In addition to scoring a season-high 19 points, Winston Shepard added a team-high-tying seven rebounds and two blocked shots, and led all Aztecs with two steals.
* Junior Dakarai Allen continued his impressive start to the season with an almost flawless shooting night. The Sacramento product was 4-for-5 from the floor (3-4 3FG) and connected on all four free-throw attempts to finish with 15 points. Through two games, Allen (15.5 ppg) has missed three shots total going 8-for-10 from the field and 11-for-12 from the charity stripe. He has made all four of his two-point attempts.
* Prior to the season, Dakarai Allen was 2-for-10 from behind the arc in 62 career games. He has already doubled that total with four makes in four fewer attempts (6).
* Sophomore Trey Kell bounced back on Monday from a tough opening-night performance against Illinois State when he scored two points and fouled out in nine minutes. At Utah, the guard tied a career high with 15 points and seven rebounds, while adding a team-high two assists.
* Senior Skylar Spencer, the 2015 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, set the school's all-time blocked shot record last year as a junior and has 235 to date. He is nine blocks shy of the conference record held by Wyoming's Justin Williams (244).
