FALL CLASSIC II - DAY ONE RESULTS
The San Diego State women's tennis team found success on the first day of the SDSU Fall Classic II. The Aztecs took nine of their possible 11 decisions on Friday. Competition will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Doubles play got action underway on Friday morning and SDSU came out of the gate on a roll. Tami Nguyen and Jana Buth topped Skyla Alcon and Kiryang Kim of CSUN in the red draw, 6-3. In the black doubles bracket, Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman combined to drop Scarlett Rush and Fiona Majende of USD, 6-2. In the white draw, Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz de Regules defeated Lisa Nosenko and Scout Shutter of CSUN, 6-2. Completing the doubles sweep for San Diego State were Dora Somoracz and Olivia Larsson as the Aztec duo downed Leslie Chang and Arpe Bagumyan of CSUN, 6-2.
In singles play, Nguyen picked up her second win of the day as she defeated Mickey Hsu of CSUN in the red draw, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. Davis would not be as fortunate in the black draw, falling to Vivian Lin of CSUN, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. The white bracket saw an Aztec split as Diaz dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Emma Wilson of Fresno State, 6-1, 6-4. Hoorn topped Kristen Poei of CSUN after falling behind early, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In the gold draw, Somoracz handled Fiona Majende of USD, 6-1, 6-1. In the pink bracket, Lederman dismissed Leslie Chang of CSUN, 6-0, 6-1. The final victory of the day for SDSU came in the grey draw and Larsson finished off Marisa Marsh of USD, 6-2, 6-1.
Competition will continue tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at Aztec Tennis Center. Doubles play will begin the day immediately followed by singles action.
