Volleyball Inks Prep Standout Ashlynn Dunbar

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State Head Volleyball Coach Deitre Collins-Parker has announced the signing of Ashlynn Dunbar, an outside hitter from Houston, Texas. Dunbar is a four-year letterwinner from Clear Falls High School (League City, Texas) where she led the Knights to the 2014 state championship final and was named to the all-state tournament team.

An all-conference selection all four years as a prep player, Dunbar set a 5-1 formation this season and was named the District co-Offensive Player of the Year. She received all-state honors her first three years as well including first-team accolades as a junior (2015 all-state team TBA). As a senior at Clear Falls HS, Dunbar average 4.60 kills, 1.20 digs, and 0.70 blocks per set while recording a .372 kill percentage.

In addition to her all-conference and all-district recognition, Dunbar was named a Prep Volleyball Top 50 Senior Ace. As a member of Absolute Volleyball Academy, her team won the 2015 Junior National 17 Open Division championship and she was named an All-American.

During her high school career she was a three-sport athlete as a four-year member of Clear Falls' track, basketball and volleyball teams. As a basketball players she has been an all-district selection the past three seasons and was the district offensive MVP as a junior.

Ashlynn is the daughter of former Harlem Globetrotter "Sweet Lou" Dunbar, who played at the University of Houston (1972-75) where he earned All-America accolades. He is currently the Globetrotters' Director of Player Personnel.

"I am very excited to be adding such a talented and versatile athlete to our roster," commented Collins-Parker. "Ashlynn already competes at a very high level, and with her abilities we have opportunities to use her skills in many ways. She is capable of being a six rotation outside hitter that can step in and set if needed. She is unique in her skill set and will be a valuable asset to the SDSU program."
