SAN DIEGO -
RED-BLACK MEET INFO (UPDATED ON DEC. 1) | MEET REGISTRATION
MEET PACKET UPDATED ON DEC. 1, INCLUDING AN UPDATED SCHEDULE.
The San Diego State track and field team will host its annual Red-Black Intrasquad and All-Comers Meet on Saturday, Dec. 5 on the Aztrack Sports Deck. The meet kicks off at 10 a.m. PT with the pole vault and high jump, while the running events get underway at 10:30 a.m. PT with the women and men's 4x200 meters relays using a "rolling schedule."
For the fifth straight year the Red-Black meet will be USA Track and Field (USATF) sanctioned, allowing youth, high school, junior college, university (including San Diego State students), alumni and masters competitors of all ages to participate an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability. The meet will also be the first in the 2016 USATF San Diego-Imperial Association Winter Track Classic Series. The meet will include discounted on-line pre-registration and Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. Throwers (especially masters) must bring their own implements. Two-hundred forty-three (243 athletes competed at the meet in 2014.
The annual meet serves as an intra-squad competition that splits the Aztecs into red and black teams who compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the relay, which includes the coaches, at the end of the meet.
"The Red-Black meet is San Diego State's official kickoff into the winter track season," SDSU head coach Shelia Burrell said. "SDSU has its sights on a Mountain West indoor championship and will look to win its third outdoor title in four years. We have an outstanding team of returnees and new faces this year. I'm excited to showcase these Aztecs to the San Diego track and field community, the San Diego State student body and our alumni at this event--all of whom are welcome to compete with us, side by side."
This year, all competitors will pay their entry fees at the gate. However, those who pre-register on-line by the deadline will receive a discount. On-line, preregistered athletes are $10 for unlimited events payable by cash or check. Pre-registration on DirectAthletics can be made at the link below:
Online registration closes on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at midnight. Registration will also be available the day of the event for $15, payable by cash or check, for unlimited events.
Spectator admission is free.
Proceeds benefit the San Diego State Track and Field/Cross Country programs.
