Storylines
- San Diego State will play host to the Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in the last six seasons. The tournament, which the Aztecs have won three years in a row, is set for Tuesday (quarterfinals), Thursday (semifinals) and Saturday (final) atop SDSU Sports Deck.
- The field includes the top-seeded Aztecs, No. 2 seed San Jose State, No. 3 New Mexico, No. 4 Wyoming, No. 5 Colorado College and No. 6 UNLV. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. PT on each day with the title game set for 7 p.m. PT. All five games will stream live on the Mountain West Network.
- Tickets for the Championship are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, students with ID and groups. Those interested in group tickets need to call the Aztec ticket office in advance at (619) 283-7378.
- The Aztecs finished the regular season with a 2-1 road victory at New Mexico on Friday. SDSU allowed a goal in the 36th minute, but responded six minutes later when Hailey Balma scored her first career goal. Then in the 87th minute, Leah Pruitt scored her fifth game-winning goal in conference and San Diego State emerged with its 10th straight victory.
- The Aztecs' 10-game winning streak is the third-longest in school history and the longest since San Diego State won 14 straight in 2012. It is also the third double-digit winning streak in school history, joining the 2012 team's 14-gamer and the 1998 squad that won 12 in a row. The trio senior of Tiffany Geer, Ashley Hauke and Melanie Vaughn has now won 63 games, which is a four-year program record.
- SDSU's string of 10 straight wins has given it the school's first double-digit win total in conference play. The last two seasons the Aztecs have fallen just short, totaling nine Mountain West victories in each of those years.
- With her goal at New Mexico, Pruitt has 29 points, which is the ninth most in a single season in school history. In the Mike Friesen era, her total trails only Megan Jurado's 39 points in 2012 and is the most by a freshman.
- Vaughn is closing in on the school record for career shutouts. The senior from Harbor City has 24.5 clean sheets, including 7.5 this season. The record holder is Aubree Southwick with 26 from 2007-10. Additionally, Vaughn has 14 victories this season, which ties a career high first established last year.
- This is the fifth time the Aztecs have played host to the MW Championship (1999, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015). SDSU has advanced to the title game three of the previous four times with the lone exception coming in 2010. San Diego State won the tournament when it was held in America's Finest City in 2012 and 2014.
- SDSU is looking to claim its fifth MW tournament trophy after winning the event in 2009 in Provo, Utah, 2012, 2013 (Albuquerque, N.M.) and 2014.
- The Aztecs are looking to become the first Mountain West program in any sport to sweep four straight regular-season and tournament crowns. Women's soccer is one of seven MW sports that crown a regular-season and tournament champion. The others are men's and women's basketball, baseball, football and men's and women's tennis. Earlier this season after defeating Colorado College on the road, SDSU clinched the MW regular-season title for the fourth straight year.
- San Diego State beat both Wyoming and Colorado College earlier this year, both of which were on the road. On Oct. 11, SDSU downed the Cowgirls, 2-1, before defeating the Tigers, 3-1, on Oct. 25. The two wins were a part of the Aztecs' 5-1 road record in Mountain West action.
- SDSU is 15-3-1 all-time vs. Wyoming and 10-0 in games played in San Diego, including last year's championship game thriller that saw the Aztecs win, 1-0, in overtime.
- San Diego State is 3-1-2 all-time vs. Colorado College and 2-0-2 in America's Finest City. If the Aztecs face the Tigers, it will be a rematch of last season's semifinal game that required penalty kicks. SDSU and CC were tied at 1-1 after 110 minutes, which led to PKs, a session the Aztecs won, 3-2, to advance to the final against Wyoming.
