CORVALLIS, Ore. - Despite a strong first half by the San Diego State men's soccer team, the Aztecs fell to Pac-12 foe Oregon State, 1-0, on a marker in the 47th minute on Sunday.

San Diego State is now 5-3-2 overall, opening its first weekend of conference play at 0-2. Oregon State climbs to 7-3-0, beginning the Pac-12 season with a 2-0 mark.

Early into the match, the Aztecs generated a slew of offensive threats, creating quality chances by Ozzie Ramos and Casey Phillips seven minutes in. San Diego State managed to put one in the net in the 10th minute off of a rebound, but the play was called offsides before the shot.

After Aztec goalkeeper Adam Allmaras faced his first test of the match at 10:56, the Aztecs again took control of the contest, firing off five unanswered shots in the ensuing 22 minutes. The Scarlet and Black would go on to out-shoot the Beavers, 7-3, in the frame.

With San Diego State unable to put anything past Nolan Wirth, the Beavers nearly took the lead in the 37th minute when Jamie Velasco took a penalty kick, but the shot sailed wide.

Upon returning from halftime, the Beavers came out clicking and netted the golden goal just two minutes into the second half. Velasco gave Oregon State its 1-0 score off of a cross from Nathan Braaten.

San Diego State's best opportunity to tie the match came in the 85th minute. Winston Sorhaitz picked up the ball on the right side of the pitch, cut inside and hit a left-footed shot, but Wirth made the stop.

The Aztecs and Beavers each took eight shots during the match, with San Diego State led by Rene Reyes' three. Allmaras saw his record fall to 3-3-2, tallying three saves. The Aztecs were awarded four corner kicks to Oregon State's three.

San Diego State will look to get back on track Mon., Oct. 12 at UCLA. The 7 p.m. Pac-12 contest will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
