FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Donnel Pumphrey rushed for two touchdowns and caught a third and San Diego State forced four turnovers for a second straight game in a 41-17 victory over Colorado State Saturday night in Fort Collins, Colo.

The win was the fifth straight for the Aztecs (6-3, 5-0 Mountain West), who have outscored the opposition, 168-59, over the stretch.

Pumphrey scored on runs of 1 and 64 yards, and caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Maxwell Smith as SDSU outscored the Rams (3-5, 1-3 MW), 34-7 over the final 38 minutes, 48 seconds of the game.

Down, 10-7, when Wyatt Bryan connected on a 44-yard field goal, San Diego State tied it as Donny Hageman nailed a 20-yard field goal with 3:22 left in the second quarter.

Later in the quarter, after the Aztecs were forced for punt it, CSU started will the ball with just 22 seconds left in the half. Colorado State completed a 14-yard pass to the SDSU 48 and called a timeout. On the Rams' next play, San Diego State Warrior (safety) Kameron Kelly picked off quarterback Nick Stevens and returned it back to the SDSU 48 with just eight seconds remaining.

Smith then found a wide-open Pumphrey, who ran it 15 yards to the CSU 37 and quickly fell down and called a timeout, setting up a 54-yard field goal attempt for Hageman. Hageman drilled it through the uprights, tying a career-long make and giving the Aztecs a 13-10 lead at the half.

After forcing Colorado State to a 3 and out on the opening drive of the third quarter, SDSU punctuated a 13-play, 89-yard drive with a 32-yard pass from Smith to Pumphrey to put San Diego State up, 20-10.

The Aztecs made it 27-10 on the Rams' next drive when Damontae Kazee picked off Stevens and returned it 55 yards for his first career touchdown.

CSU responded with a 9-play, 75-yard drive, culminating with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Stevens to Danny Nwosu to make it a 10-point game early in the fourth quarter.

It took only two plays for SDSU to answer as Pumphrey ran for 11 yards and then 64 yards into the end zone for his third score of the game and a 34-17 advantage.

San Diego State capped the scoring for the game on its next possession as Chase Price rumbled into the end zone from 16 yards out. The Aztecs had 81 yards on the drive, all via the ground, including 50 from fullback Dakota Gordon and 31 from Price.

Pumphrey finished with 168 total yards - 121 rushing and 47 receiving - and three overall touchdowns (two rushing) in the game. It was his fifth straight 100-yard rushing game and 19th of his career. In game he passed Larry Ned into second place on the school's all-time rushing list and broke 1,000 yards for the season for the second straight year.

Three other SDSU players had 50-plus running yards, including 54 by Rashaad Penny (nine carries), 50 by Price (12 rushes) and 50 by Gordon (four attempts).

Smith, meanwhile, was 11-for-14 for 180 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions for a seventh straight game. Smith finished with a season-best pass efficiency rating of 210.14 and stretched his streak to 125 passes without an interception.

Mikah Holder led a group of four San Diego State players with two catches, including a team-high 72 receiving yards.

J.J. Whittaker had a team-high eight tackles, while Kazee recorded seven stops (five solo), a 55-yard interception returned for a touchdown and a forced fumble in the end zone, keeping Colorado State off the scoreboard on its opening drive of the game. Na'im McGee added seven tackles and two pass breakups.

The Aztecs completed a perfect 5-0 month for just the third time in the 93-year history of the program and won their seventh straight league game.
