BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The 13th-ranked San Diego State women's golf team climbed one spot into a tie for fourth place on Tuesday after firing a combined 10-under par 278 during the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club. With their score, the Aztecs find themselves eight shots off the pace with a 36-hole total of 18-under 558 heading into Tuesday's final round on the par-72, 6,277-yard layout.

San José State (-26) grabbed the outright lead after carding its second straight 275, opening up a four-stroke advantage over second-place Michigan (-22), while Vanderbilt (-21) sits in the third position, followed by SDSU and Tennessee (-18).

Playing under ideal conditions for the second day in a row, a total of 66 golfers in the field of 105 competitors shot par or lower, including the Aztecs' Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden), who established a collegiate-best with a 6-under 66. The SDSU senior caught lightning in a bottle, draining a team-high eight birdies, including five on the front nine after opening with a bogey on the par-3, 169-yard No. 4. With her total, Henrikson, who is currently occupies the fifth spot in the Golfweek individual rankings, vaulted 33 places into a tie for 17th at 6-under 138, one shot in back of teammate Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah).

Blair entered the day in a five way logjam for third, but slipped eight places into a tie for 11th at 7-under 137 on the heels of a second-round 70. The Aztec junior got off to a quick start with a birdie on the par-4, 353-yard No. 3, which ranked as the fourth-toughest hole on Tuesday. However, two bogeys on the sixth and 18th greens stalled her momentum. Nevertheless, Blair managed to offset the damage, sinking three additional birdies to complete back-to-back rounds in red figures for the first time this season.

SDSU also received a pair of 71s during round two from sophomores Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.) and Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay). Despite notching three birdies, Krause lost ground on the day, slipping eight spots into a tie for 26th at 4-under 140, with consecutive bogeys on the eighth and ninth greens proving too much to overcome.

Conversely, Chaves made a modest ascent up the individual leaderboard, climbing six places into a tie for 44th at 3-under 141. The native Paraguayan rebounded from a bogey on her opening hole, the par-5, 508-yard No. 5, with 11 pars and four birdies, including back-to-back successes at Nos. 10 and 11. However, bogeys on her final two holes, the par-4 third and the par-3 fourth, prevented a more substantial gain.

Rounding out the Aztec starting lineup was fellow classmate Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.), who tumbled 10 spots into a tie for 60th at 1-over 145 after carding a 73 on Tuesday. The Torrey Pines High alumna logged birdies on the first and 13th greens, but they weren't enough to ease the sting of three bogeys, including two at Nos. 17 and 18.

SDSU was also represented by freshman Kitty Tam (Hong Kong), an unattached competitor who shot a season-best 70 in her fifth collegiate round to jump 19 places into a tie for 54th at even-par 144. Tam's day was highlighted by five birdies, including an impressive make on the par-4, 398-yard ninth, which ranked as the most difficult hole of the second round.

SJSU's My Leander (-12) shot a 67 on Tuesday to maintain her lead in the race for medalist honors, while Anna Newell of Tennessee (-11) lurks one shot behind, followed closely by Long Beach State's Kassidy Teare (-10) and Cindy Ha of Vanderbilt (-9).

The Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown concludes on Tuesday with the Aztecs teeing off alongside host UNLV and Tennessee in a shotgun start, beginning at 8 a.m. PT.
