Looking to Complete a Perfect 5-0 Month, Aztecs Play at Colorado State on Saturday

  • Riding a four-game winning streak in which it has not trailed at any point, San Diego State (5-3; 4-0 in MW-West) plays long-time league rival Colorado State (3-4; 1-2 MW-Mtn.) on Saturday. The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and can be heard on Mighty 1090 AM and 105.7 The Max, with kickoff slated for 1:30 p.m. MT (12:30 p.m. PT).
  • Last Friday, San Diego State won its 14th straight home conference game against an unranked opponent, cruising to a 48-14 victory over Utah State. The Aztecs rushed for 336 yards and forced four Aggie turnovers in the game.
  • SDSU improved to 4-0 in Mountain West play, the school's first 4-0 league start in the 17-year history of the MW and first since the 1993 WAC campaign.
  • The Aztecs are 4-0 in league play for the fourth time in 48 seasons at the Division I level (1972, 1974, 1993 and ). SDSU, which has outscored its league opposition 127-42 to this point, has never opened up a league campaign 5-0 in the Division I era (last time in any season, 1967).
  • San Diego State is looking to complete a perfect 5-0 month for just the third time in the 93-year history of the program. The Aztecs posted 5-0 months in November 1923 and November 1969.
  • Dating back to last season, SDSU has won six consecutive league games, which is tied for the ninth-longest streak in the nation. During that span, the Aztecs have outscored the opposition, 195-63 (average: 32.5-10.5). SDSU is 22-5 in its last 27 conference games.
  • This month (since Oct. 1), San Diego State leads the nation in fewest yards allowed per game (181.8). Astonishingly, that is 37.9 yards per game better than the next-lowest figure. SDSU also leads the nation during that time frame in yards allowed per play (4.2) and is second in scoring defense (10.5 ppg). The Aztecs are also third in rushing yards allowed per game (61.0) and rushing yards allowed per attempt (2.0), fourth in opponent passing rating (84.4) and fifth in opponent third-down conversion percentage (25.0 percent) this month.
  • San Diego State has held its last 11 conference opponents to less than 400 yards of total offense. During that period, the opposition is averaging 260.5 ypg. That is the longest conference streak nationally, one game ahead of LSU (10).
  • Under Rocky Long, the winningest coach in Mountain West history, the Aztecs are 12-5 in their last 17 MW road games. During that stretch, SDSU is 6-1 in the Mountain Time Zone.
  • San Diego State rushed for 336 yards in the victory over Utah State, marking the fourth consecutive game that the Aztecs have rushed for at least 218 yards (1,092 yards total in the four games). SDSU is 25-2 under Long and has won 17 straight games when rushing for at least 200 yards.
  • Junior running back Donnel Pumphrey carried 23 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns in the 34-point win over Utah State. A native of Las Vegas, Pumphrey cleared 100 yards rushing for the fourth straight game, fifth time this season and 18th time in his career. He is one of three players in the nation to lead his team in rushing yards, receiving yards and receptions.
  • Pumphrey has rushed for 605 yards in the four October games, the sixth highest total in the country. He is averaging 151.3 yards rushing with a 6.3-yard per rush average and seven rushing touchdowns in the pumpkin month.
  • For the first time in the school's Division I history (since 1969), San Diego State has gone six consecutive games without throwing an interception (prior to this stretch the Aztecs had never gone five straight games without a pick). Senior quarterback Maxwell Smith has now gone 111 attempts without throwing an interception. That is the tied for the sixth-longest active streak in the nation and longest active streak in the Mountain West.
  • SDSU has not thrown an interception since Sept. 12. Since that time, San Diego State and LSU are the only teams in the nation without an interception (Maryland and UCF each have thrown 16 INTs during that span).
  • Linebacker Calvin Munson added another six tackles in the win over Utah State and continues to pace the team in total stops with 56. He leads the team in tackles for loss (11), sacks (7), fumble recoveries (2) and is tied for team-high honors in quarterback hurries (4). He also has two interceptions (both returned for TDs) and a forced fumble. He currently ranks nationally in fumble recoveries (7th with 2), sacks per game (15th at 0.88) and TFL per game (33rd at 1.4).
