ITA Regional - Thurs. Singles Results | ITA Regional - Thurs. Doubles Result
The San Diego State women's tennis team competed in the first day of the ITA West Regional on Thursday. The tournament is being held at Barnes Tennis Center in the Point Loma area of San Diego. The Aztecs advanced two singles players to the round of 32 and will see three doubles teams compete on Friday.
In doubles action, SDSU saw three duos receive a bye in the round of 64. The lone Aztec team to take the courts was composed of Paola Diaz de Regules and Dora Somoracz. The San Diego State pair fell to Cindy Nguyen and Roxanne Resma of Hawai'i, 8-2. The three teams to receive a bye on Thursday will get in action on Friday at 9 am.
In singles play, four Aztecs received a bye in the opening round of 128. Despite taking the first set, Olivia Larsson dropped her hard-fought decision to Kim Kiryang of CSUN, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Kennedy Davis could not escape Alexandra Letzt of USC despite her best efforts, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Jana Buth downed Tatijana Sheikhan of Loyola Marymount, 6-3, 6-3. Diaz advanced out of the first round after Fiona Majendie of USD was forced to withdraw due to illness.
In the round of 64, Diaz finished off Claire Pribylova of Hawai'i, 6-4, 6-3. Diaz advanced to the round of 32 and will face ninth-seeded and 123rd-ranked Jessica Perez of LMU Friday at 9 am. Tami Nguyen took advantage of her first round bye by using her all of her muscle to take down Lana Rinaldi of Grand Canyon, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The Aztec senior will face Shayne Austin of Arizona on Friday at 10:15 am in the round of 32.
Also in the round of 64, Somoracz fell to Gussie O'Sullivan of Arizona State, 6-0, 6-0. Isabelle Hoorn dropped her match to Stephanie Yamada of UC Santa Barbara, 6-2, 6-1. Buth could not duplicate her success from earlier in the day, falling to No. 43 Lauren Marker of Arizona, 6-4, 6-2. Taylor Lederman could not keep up with Christine Maddox of Pepperdine, falling, 6-1, 6-4.
San Diego State will resume competition tomorrow at 9 am at Barnes Tennis Center.
