OKLAHOMA CITY -

2016 USA SOFTBALL WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION CAMP INVITEES

San Diego State sophomore Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) has been invited to the 2016 USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and USA Softball announced today. Peres is one of 43 initial invitees to the camp, which will take place Jan. 2-8, 2016 at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif.

The athletes who accept the invitation to try out will vie for 17 spots on the 2016 USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball XI, the XV World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada and the Japan Cup.

Peres, a catcher, is one of only eight invitees who attended or currently attends a school from a "Group of 5" conference.

Over the summer, Peres helped the USA Junior National Team to a gold medal at the XI WBSC Junior Women's World Championships and a fifth-place finish at the World Cup of Softball X.

Additional athletes may be invited to the USA Softball WNT Selection Camp at a later date. During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC). The complete 2016 schedule for the WNT, including exhibition games, will be announced at a later date.

Last year at SDSU, Peres hit .347 (58-for-167) with nine home runs, 48 RBIs, 30 runs and 11 doubles, while posting a .575 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base mark. She was a second-team all-NFCA West Region selection, the MW Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-MW pick in 2015.

San Diego State finished 2015 with a 38-20 record, advancing to the NCAA Regional final for the third time since 2011 and fifth time in 11 tournament trips before being eliminated by UCLA. The Aztecs, one of just 20 schools in the country to play in a NCAA tournament at least eight consecutive years, finished the year with seven school records, including batting average (.312), slugging percentage (.486), runs (324), home runs (63), RBIs (293), total bases (758) and hits (484).

SDSU's 2016 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
