SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State men's tennis team made its 2015-16 home debut at the SDSU Fall Invitational on Friday, with three of the four Aztecs competing on Montezuma Mesa producing 1-1 marks on the opening day of the tournament.

Freshmen Raul de la Torre and Sander Gjoles-Anderson each yielded 1-1 records in their first collegiate competition in San Diego. Sophomore Santiago Cevallos also posted a 1-1 outing, while junior Jonas Meinzer lost his only match of the day, a 6-4, 7-6 loss to Grand Canyon's Mitch Maroscher.

Cevallos opened the day, which featured temperatures in the triple-digits, by topping Alexander Roggenkamp from Grand Canyon, 6-4, 7-5. He was, however, snarled by USC's Logan Smith, 7-5, 6-1.

Gjoles-Anderson also put forth a dominating win, shutting out UCSD's Adrian Cordova with 6-0, 6-0 victories, but dropped his next match 7-5, 6-3 against Henry Ji from USC.

In his first match of the tournament, Calexico, Calif., native de la Torre fell behind in his opening set to Grand Canyon's Meidy Chazeau, 2-6, but was able to come back with a 6-2 second-set victory. He dropped the third set, 3-6, taking the loss. In the consolation bracket later in the day, he topped Corentin Haener of San Diego Mesa, 6-3, 6-1.

Both of the Aztecs' doubles pairing suffered losses on the day, with Meinzer and Cevallos falling to Axel Boullin and JP Boyd from UCSD, 6-4, and de la Torre and Gjoles-Anderson taking the 6-3 loss against Grand Canyon's Justin Cvitanovic and Rafael Lira.

The Aztecs continue play at the Aztec Tennis Center tomorrow, with a round of doubles play beginning at 9 a.m., followed by two rounds of singles play.
