SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team is set to open its fall slate as it plays host to the SDSU Fall Classic I beginning Friday, Oct. 2. The annual tournament will run through Sunday and will feature six teams, including the Aztecs.
Among the teams visiting the Aztec Tennis Center for the three-day event will be returners Grand Canyon University, cross-town rival San Diego and Loyola Marymount in addition to the University of Denver and UC Irvine.
The tournament will feature six singles draws and three doubles brackets. Action will get underway each day beginning with doubles play with first serve set for 9 a.m. with singles competition immediately following.
The Aztecs will return seven from last year's team, including seniors Isabelle Hoorn, Tami Nguyen and Dora Somoracz. The team said goodbye to graduating seniors Kristin Buth and Hailey Johnson this past spring, but has added junior transfer Taylor Lederman to the roster. Lederman hails from Sarasota, Florida and comes to Montezuma Mesa after spending her first two seasons at Kentucky.
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to park in PS 5 on the corner of 55th Street and Montezuma Road. Parking is $2 per hour and is always required in PS 5. The Aztec Tennis Center is located just beyond Tony Gwynn Stadium, SDSU Softball Stadium and the Aztec Aquaplex on the northwest edge of campus.
