WOLCOTT, Colo. - Buoyed by the strong performances of Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) and Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.), the San Diego State women's golf team vaulted into first place on Tuesday during the second round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club. The Aztecs were the lone school with a combined score below par, carding a 2-under 286 on the par-72, 6,261-yard Tom Fazio Course.

With its performance, SDSU sits atop the team standings at 4-over 580 for the tournament, maintaining a six-shot advantage over host Denver (+10), while Monday's leader TCU (+12) slipped into third, followed by Campbell (+20), Arizona State (+28) and Memphis (+28).

Henrikson surged into the top spot on the individual leaderboard at 5-under 139, jumping six places from the previous day after posting a tournament-best 67. The Aztec senior drained a team-high seven birdies, including five on the front nine, highlighted by a successful conversion at the par-4, 338-yard No. 8, which ranked as the toughest hole on Tuesday. Despite a pair of bogeys on the 4th and 16th greens, Henrikson still managed to tie her collegiate low for 18 holes and open up a five-stroke lead over Long Beach State's Savannah Knox (E) heading into Wednesday's final round.

Lacey, meanwhile, displayed the squad's greatest mobile ascent for the second round, catapulting 21 places into the third position at 1-over 145 after recording the field's second-lowest score of the week with a career-best 69. The SDSU sophomore opened with seven straight pars before making a birdie on the aforementioned 8th, one of just five makes at that location on the day. Lacey registered just one blemish on her scorecard, a bogey-5 on No. 11, but more than made up for it with three additional birdies on the back nine to move within six shots of Henrikson.

Despite carding a second-round 76 that did not count towards the Aztecs' team score, first-round co-leader Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) still remains in contention in a tie for fourth at 2-over 146. After notching three birdies and an eagle on Monday, the SDSU junior found red figures elusive, posting just one birdie on the 11th green, which ranked as the sixth-most difficult hole of the round. Blair added 13 pars to the mix, but three bogeys and a double-bogey on the par-3 7th stalled her momentum.

Elsewhere, the Scarlet and Black received a pair of 75s from its two remaining starters, sophomores Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.) and Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay). Krause, who finished the day in a tie for 23rd at 7-over 151, was 2-under for the round after draining the last of her four birdies on the par-5, 481-yard 15th. However, a bogey on No. 16, followed by a quadruple on the par-3 17th proved disastrous.

Conversely, Chaves closed with a rush, sinking a birdie on the par-4 No. 13 before reeling off five straight pars to finish the day in the 28th position one shot in back of Krause at 8-over 152.

The Golfweek Conference Challenge concludes with final-round action on Wednesday as San Diego State tees off alongside TCU and Denver once again in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT/7:30 a.m. PT.
