Storylines
- San Diego State, the three-time defending Mountain West champions, open conference play this week with road games at Boise State and Utah State. The Aztecs will face the Broncos on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. MT before taking on the Aggies Sunday at 1 p.m. MT. Both games will stream live at GoAztecs.com via the Mountain West Network.
- SDSU is coming off a week in which it defeated cross-town foe San Diego and lost on the road at UC Davis. The two games could not have been any different as the Aztecs scored four goals on their way to a 4-3 victory over the Toreros before being shutout by the Aggies, 1-0.
- The Aztecs' four-goal scoring outburst vs. USD was a welcomed sight for a team that found the back of the net just once in their previous three games and went 1-2 during the stretch. San Diego State received single goals from junior transfer Hedda Regefalk, sophomore Aliyah Utush and true freshmen Milan Moses and Leah Pruitt. Utush and Pruitt, meanwhile, each recorded two assists, with the sophomore helping on the first two scores.
- Aliyah Utush and Leah Pruitt both finished with one goal and two assists vs. USD marking the first time an Aztec has produced that line since Hannah Keane vs. Idaho State on Sept. 21, 2014. Since 2009, only four other Aztecs have posted at least one goal and two assists in an outing. Victoria Barba, meanwhile, is the only other Aztec on the roster to have accomplished the feat (vs. Utah State on Nov. 7, 2013).
- Since the start of the 2009 campaign, only three San Diego State freshmen have registered a line of one goal and two assists in a single game and Leah Pruitt is the first to do so since that season. In 2009, Niki Fernandes had an identical line vs. New Mexico (Oct. 23, 2009) and Sarah Halverson duplicated the effort at TCU on Oct. 30, 2009.
- Leah Pruitt owns a team-high five assists through seven games, which is impressive considering the team leader last year was senior Kelsey Booth, who had seven in 22 games during a season in which the Aztecs swept both Mountain West titles and ultimately advanced to the NCAA tournament.
- Aliyah Utush shares the team lead with Pruitt as both have nine points. Utush has already established a career high with three assists to date (previous best: 2) and is currently halfway to her freshman season total of six goals.
- All 13 of San Diego State's goals this season have been scored by either first- or second-year Aztecs. Sophomores Aliyah Utush and Angela Mitchell have a team-high three goals, while freshmen Milan Moses and Leah Pruitt, and junior transfer Hedda Regefalk each have two goals apiece. Junior Zsuria Phare, who is in her second year with program, has the other goal for SDSU.
- Ten of San Diego State's 11 assists have also been recorded by first- or second-year Aztecs. Leah Pruitt has five, Aliyah Utush has three and sophomore Stacie Moran has a pair entering this week's action. Junior Morgan Darling is the lone outlier with one assist.
- San Diego State heads into the Mountain West portion of the schedule having not been beat in six straight league openers. The Aztecs are 4-0-2 in the first game of the league slate and have won three in a row. SDSU's last MW-opening defeat came in 2008, a 2-1 loss to UNLV. Overall, San Diego State is 8-4-4 in MW openers.
- The Aztecs are opening the league campaign on the road for the second year in a row after beating San Jose State, 1-0, in 2014. In the history of the Mountain West, SDSU is 3-2-1 in road conference openers.
- San Diego State will put its eight-game Mountain West regular-season road winning streak on the line on Friday. The streak dates to the 2013 season when SDSU started the impressive run with a victory at Boise State on Oct. 25. Since the beginning of 2011, the Aztecs are 16-1 in regular-season road conference games. SDSU's last loss came at Wyoming on Oct. 13, 2013, when it was on the wrong end of a 2-1 score.
