DAVIS, Calif. -

San Diego State-UC Davis Final Box

San Diego State yielded a goal in the 51st minute and could not find the back of the net the rest of the way despite dominating the action as it fell to UC Davis, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at a hot Aggie Soccer Field. With temperatures in the 90s, SDSU ultimately closed its non-league schedule with a 4-3 record, while UCD improved to 6-3-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Aggies were able to get on the scoreboard six minutes after emerging from the locker room. On what would be the game-winning sequence, Ana Marija Sola sent a cross to Crystal Crump, who knocked in her second goal of the season to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.

Facing a one-goal deficit, SDSU became aggressive offensively, something it had trouble doing in the first half as evidenced by being outshot, 6-3. In the final 45 minutes alone, the Aztecs owned a 7-2 advantage in shots. The quantity, however, did not produce results as San Diego State suffered its third shutout of the year, just one game after scoring four goals vs. cross-town foe USD.

The final stats tell a different story than the final score as SDSU finished with more shots (10-8), shots on goal (4-3), corner kicks (3-0) and fouls committed (6-14).

Individually, freshman Leah Pruitt and sophomore Aliyah Utush shared game-high honors with Crump as all three attempted three shots. Sophomore Angela Mitchell, meanwhile, led the Aztecs with two shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Melanie Vaughn, who made a number of spectacular stops in the first half, completed the final game of the non-conference season with two saves.

The three-time defending Mountain West regular-season and tournament champions open conference play next week. SDSU will travel to Boise, Idaho, to play Boise State on Friday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. MT (3 p.m. PT). The game will stream live at GoAztecs.com via the Mountain West Network.
