SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball head coach Stacie Terry announced the hiring Wednesday of Kevin Adams as the program's director of player development and assistant recruiting coordinator. In his role, Adams will be responsible for the all of the team's video needs and will aid assistant coach Ciara Carl with on-campus recruiting.
"We are excited to have Kevin as a new member of our staff," Terry said. "He is a proven winner with an outstanding work ethic and will help take our program to new heights. Not only is Kevin a tireless worker with high character and infectious enthusiasm, he has numerous West Coast ties, which will benefit our recruiting efforts."
Adams' job duties at SDSU include coordinating film exchange, editing game and practice film, along with developing team highlight videos. In addition, the Yucaipa, Calif., native will supervise the squad's student managers and will lend support to director of basketball operations Fatema Arefi in the planning and preparation of all women's basketball events.
Adams arrives on Montezuma Mesa after spending the last five years as an assistant with the women's program at Division II power Cal Poly Pomona, where he served as associate head coach during the 2014-15 campaign. While at CPP, the Broncos won nearly 72 percent of their games (108-43) and competed in four NCAA tournaments, highlighted by an Elite Eight series appearance in 2011 followed by a Final Four run in 2014.
Individually, Adams coached Jada Blackwell, a two-time All-America honoree who was also an NCAA DII Player of the Year finalist in 2015, as well as Megan Ford, who garnered All-America accolades in 2014 and received first-team all-West Region distinction. Other Adams' notable pupils include Ariel Marsh, the 2015 California Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Year who twice earned second-team all-region honors and Reyana Colson, the 2011 CCAA Most Valuable Player and West Region Player of the Year.
"This is a tremendous opportunity that Coach Terry and her program have provided," Adams said. "I can't thank the Aztec women's basketball staff enough and I am very excited to be a part of the bright future here at San Diego State. Everything needed for SDSU to return to national prominence is in place here, from first-class facilities to a top-rate education. It is truly a blessing for my family to join the Aztec community."
Adams received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from California Baptist in 2009. Upon graduation, he remained at the school, joining the Lancer women's basketball staff for one season as an assistant coach before moving to Cal Poly Pomona along with current Bronco head coach Danielle Bishop.
During his undergraduate studies at CBU, Adams assisted with the boys' basketball program at his alma mater Yucaipa High School, where he earned three varsity letters as a prep player.
