ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 26th-ranked San Diego State women's golf team finds itself in 11th place after shooting a combined 14-over-par 597 during the first two rounds of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on the par-73, 6,315-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course. The Aztecs posted scores of 301-297 to remain two strokes behind 10th-place Pepperdine and three shots in back of Miami (Fla.) for the ninth spot heading into Tuesday's final round.

Senior Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) was the lone SDSU player to complete the first two rounds in red figures, carding a 2-under 144 to tie for 10th place on the individual leaderboard. After making five bogeys against four birdies in the opening session, the three-time all-Mountain West performer minimized damage in the afternoon, draining five birdies compared to two bogeys en route to a 70. With her totals, Henrikson sits just four shots in behind Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse, who fired a 6-under 140 on Monday to forge a slim one-stroke edge over four players.

Elsewhere, the Aztecs' Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) recorded an even-par 146 to finish the day in a tie for 24th position. The SDSU junior rebounded from a 75 in the morning, sinking three birdies against one bogey in the second round en route to a 71. Despite the dearth of birdies, Blair was still managed to display consistency, tying for the tournament lead with 28 pars on the day to remain two shots in back of Henrikson.

The rest of the Aztec contingent was not as fortunate, however, with Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.) landing in 57th place after recording a collective 7-over 153 over the first 36 holes. Following a 77 in the morning, the SDSU sophomore got off to a fast start in the second round with two pars and two birdies, but could not overcome six bogeys the rest of the way, ultimately settling for a 76.

Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay) was also unable to generate momentum, stumbling to a 9-over 155 on rounds of 75-80. The Aztec sophomore began the morning strong with three birdies and five pars, but four bogeys after the turn, including three on her final four holes, spelled doom. Chaves promptly began the second round with a bogey and double-bogey, which set the tone for the balance of the afternoon.

Two SDSU freshman experienced struggles as well in their first collegiate competition. Hana Furuichi (San Diego, Calif.), an unattached competitor, finds herself in a tie for 81st after posting a 14-over 160, while Kitty Tam (Hong Kong), the Aztecs' remaining starter, ended the day tied for 99th on the heels of a 20-over 166.

With three golfers among the top five individually, Stanford (-18) seized a commanding 12-stroke advantage over defending tournament champion Northwestern (-6), while Oregon (-2) occupies the third spot, followed by UNLV (-1) and Oklahoma State (+1).

The Branch/McGuire Invitational concludes on Tuesday, with SDSU teeing off alongside Pepperdine and Washington State during final-round action, starting at 8 a.m. MT/7 a.m. PT. A live scoring link courtesy of BirdieFire will be available on GoAztecs.com.
