USD-San Diego State Postgame Notes

Big Notes
• Calvin Munson is the first player in school history to have two interceptions returned for a touchdown in a single game. SDSU has been playing football since 1921.
• Damontae Kazee becomes the first Aztec with three interceptions in a game since Ed Ricketts on Oct. 13, 1951 vs. the Marines.
• SDSU forced six turnovers for the first time since Sept. 13, 2003, at UTEP (6).
• The Aztecs recorded five interceptions in a game for the first time since Nov. 17, 2001, vs. Wyoming (6).
• San Diego State now has forced 16 turnovers over the last four games and has back-to-back four-plus turnover games for the first time since 2011 vs. Michigan and TCU.

Team Notes
• SDSU improves to 16-8 (.667) over its last 24 games dating back to the 2013 season with two of those losses coming to nationally ranked teams.
• San Diego State wins its ninth consecutive regular-season home game at Qualcomm Stadium (aka Aztec Warrior Stadium). It is the longest regular-season home winning streak since a 16-game streak from Oct. 16, 1976, through Nov. 5, 1978.
• The Aztecs improve to 2-0 lifetime against San Diego, having defeated the Toreros 42-12 on Nov. 18, 1961.
• SDSU picked up its 11th defensive score (ninth touchdown) in the Rocky Long era (since 2009).
• San Diego State recorded its 10th special teams score (eighth touchdown) since Rocky Long became head coach in 2011.
• The Aztecs had a defensive touchdown and a special teams touchdown in the same game for the first time since Nov. 23, 2013 vs. Boise State.
• SDSU held its opponent without a point in the first quarter for the fourth time in five games.
• The Aztecs scored 14 points in the first quarter for the first time since Northern Arizona in the 2014 opener.
• San Diego State held its opponent scoreless at the half for the second time in three games and third time in 14 games.
• SDSU scored 27 of its 37 points off turnovers.

Season-Opener Notes
• San Diego State wins its second consecutive season opener (defeated Northern Arizona, 38-7, last season). It marks the first time the Aztecs have won consecutive lidlifters since 2010 and 2011.
• San Diego State is now 48-40-5 in season-opening games, including a 23-23-1 mark in the Division I era (since 1969).
• The Aztecs improved to 20-7-1 in the Division I era (since 1969) when their opener is at home.
• SDSU won its home opener for the sixth time in seven seasons (since 2009) and for the seventh time over the last nine seasons (since 2007).

Trends
• SDSU did not start with the ball for just the third time over the last 42 games.
• San Diego State has now gone 104 games without suffering a shutout (Nov. 18, 2006, at TCU), which is the third-longest streak among current Mountain West schools (Air Force at 271 and Boise State at 225). That is the only time the Aztecs have been shut out in their last 198 games.
• SDSU improves to 22-10 in the Rocky Long era when scoring first.
• San Diego State improves to 21-6 when leading after the first quarter.
• The Aztecs improves to 19-6 in the Rocky Long era when leading at the half.
• SDSU improves to 26-7 in the Rocky Long era when leading after three quarters.

* Calvin Munson, Jr., LB (11 tackles (3 solo), 2.5 TFL, 2 INT for TD)
• Recorded 11 tackles (3 solo), career-high 2 interceptions.
• Had two interceptions returned for a touchdown, a 19-yarder and a 67-yarder, to give him three for his career.
• The two interceptions give him six for his career.
• Had 86 interception return yards to give him 232 for his career, which is fifth all-time in school history.
• His two interceptions returned for a touchdown ties the school single-season record (Leon McFadden -- 2012, Tory Nixon -- 1984).
• Has three interceptions returned for a touchdown, which ties Ricky Parker (1993-96) for the most in school history.
• The fumble recovery was the first of his career.

* Damontae Kazee, Jr., CB (3 tackles (3 solo), 2.0 TFL, 3 INT)
• Recorded 3 tackles (3 solo) and a career-high 3 interceptions.
• Became the first Aztec with three interceptions in a game since Ed Ricketts on Oct. 13, 1951 vs. the Marines. The three interceptions are tied for the second most in a game in program history.
• The three interceptions were his third, fourth and fifth of his career.

* Donnel Pumphrey, Jr., RB (20 att., 65 yds., 1 TD | 2 rec., 14 yds.)
• Rushed for 65 yards and 1 touchdown on 20 attempts (3.2 avg.)
• Scored his 29th career rushing touchdown, which ranks sixth in school history.
• SDSU improves 8-3 when he scores at least one rushing touchdown.

* Jake Fely, Sr., LB (9 tackles (6 solo), 1 Forced Fumble)
• Had nine tackles, the second-most on the team.
• It was his first game action since Nov. 15, 2014, at Boise State.
• His nine tackles were his most since totaling 10 at Wyoming on Nov. 24, 2012.
• Picked up his sixth career forced fumble.

* Maxwell Smith, QB (9-for-21, 100 yds., 1 INT)
• Won his Aztec debut, while starting at quarterback.
• Started his first game since Nov. 30, 2013, while at Kentucky.

* Chase Price, Sr., RB (9 att., 63 yds., 7.0 ypg.)
• Averaged 7.0 yards per carry, his highest averaged since Nov. 1, 2014, when he gained 7.26 per rush at Nevada (8 carries).
• Posted his fourth game of his career with an average of at least 7.0 yards per rush.

* Rashaad Penny, So., KR/RB (1 KR, 97 yds., 1 TD)
• Returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown to start the second half, his first career touchdown of any kind.
• It was the first kickoff returned for a touchdown by an Aztec since Colin Lockett at Boise State on Nov. 3, 2012.

* Donny Hageman, Sr., K (3-for-3 FGs, 4-for-4 PATs)
• Was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, connecting on 33, 36 and 37 yards.
• It was his eighth career game with multiple field goals.
• Is now 23-for-28 for his career on field-goal attempts (82.1 pct.).

Other Notes
• J.J. Whittaker started for the 27th consecutive game, which leads all Aztecs (doesn't include specialist).
• Jeff Overbaugh, Pierre Romain and Jon Sanchez each played in their 40th straight game, the most of any current SDSU player.
• San Diego State had six players make their first Division I start tonight, including LT Kwayde Miller, C Arthur Flores, WR Chase Favreau, WR Mikah Holder, LB Ryan Dunn and DT Noble Hall. QB Maxwell Smith made his first start as an Aztec.
