XI WBSC JUNIOR WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
San Diego State softball player Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) will represent USA at the XI WBSC Junior Women's World Championships, beginning Sunday (Aug. 9) at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. USA will be joined in the seven-day event by Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Puerto Rico.
The WBSC Junior Women's World Championships is separated into two groups with each team playing every team in its group once in a round-robin format. USA is scheduled to play Chinese Taipei (8 p.m. CT) on Sunday, Italy (1 p.m. CT) and Australia (7:30 p.m. CT) on Monday (Aug. 10), Brazil (3:30 p.m. CT) and Puerto Rico (7:30 p.m. CT) on Tuesday (Aug. 11), and Mexico (3:30 p.m. CT) and Czech Republic (7:30 p.m. CT) on Wednesday (Aug. 12) in round-robin play. Playoffs will be contested from Thursday, Aug. 13-Saturday, Aug. 15, with the gold medal game (7 p.m. CT), bronze medal game (4 p.m. CT) and the placement game championship (1 p.m. CT) culminating the event on Saturday (Aug. 15).
Peres appeared in five games for the USA Junior National Team at the World Cup of Softball X last month, batting .250 (2-for-8) with a homer, RBI, four runs and a walk, owning a .625 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base percentage. Additionally, she was perfect in the field in 10 chances. The USA Junior Women went 3-4 in the round-robin format, before defeating Mexico, 6-5, in the fifth-place game on July 5.
Last year, Peres hit .347 (58-for-167) with nine home runs, 48 RBIs, 30 runs and 11 doubles, while posting a .575 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base mark. A catcher, Peres was a second-team all-NFCA West Region selection, the MW Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-MW pick in 2015.
