TEMPE, Ariz. - San Diego State, ranked No. 22 in the Soccer America poll, traveled to play the NSCAA's 22nd-ranked team, Arizona State, on Monday and endured a 1-hour, 34-minute weather delay before the contest was canceled. There has been no decision on a makeup date.
The teams started the game on time and played 16 minutes before lightning hit the area forcing the delay. Rain and wind later made its presence felt and the decision was made to cancel what was a big non-league game for both sides.
In the brief time the teams were on the field, ASU had two shots, with one coming on goal. SDSU, meanwhile, did not have an attempt and goalkeeper Melanie Vaughn made one stop.
The Aztecs will try to play in Tempe in their next outing as they are scheduled to face Arizona on the Arizona State campus Friday afternoon. The game is set for 4:30 p.m. PT and is slated to air live online.
