COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Thirty-four San Diego State student-athletes were named 2014-15 Mountain West Scholar-Athletes, the league announced Wednesday morning. SDSU's total for the 2014-15 academic year surpassed last season's total by one when it had 33 honorees.

The track and field team led the way with 10 scholar-athletes and had an additional four recognized from the cross country squad. MW champion swimming and diving and women's tennis also had four apiece, while football (3), Mountain West champs baseball (2), softball (2) and men's tennis (2) had multiple scholar-athletes.

Rounding out San Diego State's total were men's basketball, men's golf and women's golf, which each had one player earn scholar-athlete accolades. All three teams, meanwhile, won Mountain West titles in 2014-15.

The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.

The scholar-athlete announcement comes days after a school-record 69 Aztecs were named to the Spring 2015 Mountain West All-Academic Team.
