SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its work in the classroom this past school year. The 10-member team earned the ITA All-Academic Team Award as well as having five members tabbed as ITA Scholar Athletes.
For a team to qualify for the award, a team must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2014 and spring 2015).
In addition to the team award, Dora Somoracz, Felicia Ahlborg, Jana Buth, Paola Diaz de Regules and Tami Nguyen were each named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for their academic efforts.
To earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete designation, a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
The Aztecs will open their fall season with the SDSU Fall Classic I which will be held Oct. 2-4 at Aztec Tennis Center. The fall slate will continue with the ITA Regionals at Barnes Tennis Center on Oct. 15-19 and will close with the SDSU Fall Classic II on Nov. 13-15 at Aztec Tennis Center.
