LOS ANGELES - A school-record eight San Diego State water polo players earned 2015 Golden Coast Conference All-Academic Team accolades, the league announced Monday. The eight honorees are also the most in the history of the program regardless of conference.

Seniors Carina Carballo and Anique Hermann led the way, followed by juniors Nikole Ferrari, Taylor Gums and Nika Sedghi, sophomore Alyssa Diacono, and freshmen Nikki de Roos and Courtney Jarvis.

For Carballo, Diacono, Gums and Hermann, it marked the second time they have been recognized by the GCC. As for de Roos and Jarvis, they join Diacono in 2014 as the second and third Aztec freshmen in team history to be named to the GCC All-Academic squad.

To be considered for the team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, played in at least 50 percent of the team's contests and classified as a full-time student who completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters.

The eight Golden Coast all-academic performers surpass the five honorees in 2014, and erase the overall school record of six established in 2005, 2010 and 2011, when San Diego State was a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

The eight award winners comes on the heels of five Aztecs being named to the ACWPC All-Academic Team two weeks ago and puts a cap on a 2015 season that saw SDSU win its second consecutive GCC regular-season championship. San Diego State also finished in a tie for 16th nationally in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association top-20 poll.
