2015-16 SDSU Women's Basketball Schedule
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team will play 18 Mountain West games for the third straight season as the league office announced its 2015-16 schedule Wednesday morning. The Aztecs will battle eight MW opponents twice and two league foes once (one home and one away), with starting times to be revealed at a later date.
After a nine-day break for the Christmas holiday, SDSU tips off its conference slate in earnest on Wednesday, Dec. 30, when it pays a visit to long-time rival Wyoming. The Aztecs, who split two meetings with the Cowgirls last season, will open conference play in Laramie for the first time in program history.
Following its excursion to the Front Range, SDSU returns to the friendly environs of Montezuma Mesa on Saturday, Jan. 3, when it entertains Utah State in its MW home opener at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs faced the Aggies just once during their 2015 league slate, claiming a 70-59 decision on the road.
After a quick trip to the Bay Area for an encounter with San José State on Wednesday, Jan. 6, SDSU will enjoy an open date before tipping off a tough homestand against two-time defending regular-season conference champion Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan 13, followed by a showdown with 2015 MW tournament winner Boise State on Saturday Jan. 16. The Aztecs played one of their most complete games last season against the explosive Broncos in a 57-40 triumph at Viejas Arena.
SDSU will quickly become road warriors, playing four of their next six games away from "America's Finest City," beginning with a clash at Fresno State on Wednesday, Jan. 20, while a rematch against Utah State in Logan awaits the Scarlet and Black on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The Aztecs will close off the first month of conference play with two home dates, starting Wednesday, Jan. 27, when Nevada invades Viejas Arena in the lone regular-season matchup between the two squads. SDSU claimed two of the three meetings with the Wolf Pack a year ago, including a 70-48 conquest in the first round of the MW tournament. The Aztecs will then lock horns against another Silver State adversary in UNLV on Saturday, Jan. 30, with the home team capturing the last five encounters.
San Diego State resumes its road swing with a pair of challenging tests in the Mountain time zone at Colorado State (Feb. 3) and New Mexico (Feb. 6) before playing four of its next games at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs will complete their regular-season series against in-state rivals Fresno State (Feb. 10) and San José State (Feb. 20) on The Mesa, sandwiched around their lone encounter of the year against Air Force at the Academy (Feb.13).
After a return visit by Wyoming (Feb. 24) and a quick trip to Boise State (Feb. 27), SDSU will wrap up its home schedule on Tuesday, March 1, when it entertains New Mexico as part of Senior Night festivities. The Aztecs, who have played the Lobos more than any other school in program history, have won four straight games on Senior Night and seven of their last eight.
For the third consecutive year and fourth time in the last five campaigns, SDSU will close off the regular season on the road when it travels to UNLV on Friday, March 4.
The Mountain West Championship will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., for the ninth straight year and the 14th time overall on March 7-11.
The Aztecs return seven letterwinners and three starters from last season's squad, including guard McKynzie Fort (Fontana, Calif.), who earned MW all-freshman honors in 2015.
