SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State women's basketball star Courtney Clements has signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. The 6-foot guard joins the Sparks after appearing in 33 regular-season games for the Chicago Sky during the 2014 campaign when she averaged 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.4 minutes of action.
A native of Long Beach, Clements earned honorable mention All-America recognition and first-team all-Mountain West accolades in her final two seasons at SDSU (2011-13), amassing 1,495 points in an Aztec uniform, which ranks fifth in program history. In addition, she became the first SDSU performer to capture MW Player of the Year honors in 2012 after leading the league in scoring with 17.4 points per contest.
Upon completing her collegiate eligibility, Clements signed with the Atlanta Dream as a free agent in 2013, becoming the first Aztec to play for a WNBA title after helping her squad reach the championship finals against the Minnesota Lynx.
Prior to the start of the 2014 campaign, Clements was traded to the Chicago Sky where she contributed to the team's Eastern Conference championship. Late in the season, Clements earned her first professional start against the San Antonio Stars, scoring a career-high 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 38 minutes.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Brian Alger, the Sparks are off to an 0-4 start this season heading into Tuesday night's road clash with the Washington Mystics, which will be televised nationally on ESPN2, starting at 5 p.m. PT.
San Diego State opens its 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 6, with an exhibition game against Point Loma at Viejas Arena.
