ST. GEORGE, Utah - The San Diego State women's golf team slipped four places into the 16th position on Friday after shooting a collective 26-over par 310 during the second round of the NCAA St. George Regional at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club. Despite trimming five strokes off their combined score from the previous day, the Aztecs lost ground in the standings, finishing with a 36-hole total of 57-over 625 on the par-71, 6,255-yard track.

All five SDSU's starters remain within five shots of one another on the individual leaderboard, including Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay), who finds herself tied for 42nd at 13-over 155 after firing a second-round 78. Starting on the 10th hole, the Aztec freshman struggled from the outset with two bogeys and a double bogey before draining a birdie on the par-4, 343-yard No. 13. After notching a bogey on the next green, Chaves appeared to have righted the ship over the ensuing eight holes, posting six pars while making a birdie-3 at No. 2. However, three additional bogeys down the stretch hastened her slide from the 32nd position.

Sophomore Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) experienced a less precipitous drop, but still fell four places into a tie for 52nd at 14-over 156 after carding a 77 on Friday. The Utah native, who returned to her home state this week for the first time as a collegiate competitor, was even through six holes, offsetting a bogey at No. 11 with a birdie-3 on the 290-yard 15th. However, four straight bogeys derailed her momentum. Blair soon rebounded with another birdie at No. 2, but three additional bogeys over her next five holes thwarted her advance up the leaderboard.

Conversely, senior Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was the lone SDSU golfer to display upward mobility during the second round, climbing three spots into a tie for 58th at 15-over 157 after matching Blair for team-best honors with a 77 of her own. Despite signing her scorecard without a birdie, the Aztec captain topped the squad with 13 pars on Friday, including eight after the turn to ease the sting of three bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine.

Elsewhere, freshman Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.) and junior Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) landed in a tie for the 77th position at 18-over 160 on Friday. Lacey got off to a relatively fast start on her first seven holes, posting four birdies and one par against two bogeys. The Torrey Pines High alumna followed with a bogey and two pars before the proverbial roof caved in, logging six additional bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine en route to a disappointing 78.

Henrikson, meanwhile, tumbled 29 places after shooting an uncharacteristic 81 during the second round. Despite 11 pars and one birdie, the native Swede's day was hampered by a quintuple bogey 9 at No. 18, followed by a double bogey after the turn on No. 3.

Top-ranked USC carded an 8-over 292 on Friday to extend its lead to 11 strokes over Stanford (+28) in the team standings, while California (+34) and Arkansas (+34) are tied for third, followed by Virginia (+36) and UNLV (+37). The top six squads and three low individuals not on those teams advance out of regional competition into the NCAA championship series, May 22-27, in Bradenton, Fla.

USC's Annie Park (+1) heads into the final round with a slim one-shot advantage over Shannon Aubert of Stanford (+2), who carded the field's lone score under par on Friday with a 69, and UNLV's Dana Finkelstein (+2), while Gaby Lopez of Arkansas (+3) and Pauline Loulier (+3) are tied for fourth on a crowded leaderboard.

The St. George Regional concludes on Saturday, with the Aztecs scheduled to tee off alongside Northern Arizona and Albany during the final round, beginning at 9:39 a.m. MT/8:39 a.m. PT on the 10th hole.
