AUSTIN, Texas - San Diego State's Kristen Brown advanced to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in the pole vault, taking 10th in the event at the NCAA West Prelims Friday in Austin, Texas.

Brown came in 10th out of 48 entrants (each event on the day had 48 entrants) in the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 11 inches (4.24m). Brown successfully cleared the opening height of 12-07.25 on the first try, then 13-01.00 on her second attempt and 13-07.00 on her first try. After missing her first two attempts at 13-11.00, she sailed over the bar on her third and final try, qualifying for the championship meet for the second consecutive year. Last year Brown came in 16th in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships, clearing 13-03.50.

Brown also competed in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles, advancing to Saturday's quarterfinal with a wind-aided time of 13.35 seconds. That was second in heat No. 2 and 16th overall. The quarterfinals, which features the top-three finishers in each heat plus the next six-fastest times, is set for 7:05 p.m. CT Saturday.

Also participating in the 100 hurdles was Micha Auzenne, who finished in fifth in heat No. 1 and 26th overall with a wind-aided time of 13.56 seconds.

SDSU had two athletes come close to qualifying for Eugene in the discus throw. Alexa Evans was three spots off in 15th at 173-02 (52.78m) and Jasmine Burrell took 20th in 170-11 (52.10m).

Three other Aztecs competed in the pole vault with Kortney Ross and Holly Waseloff placing 27th and 32nd, respectively, at the same height of 13-01.00 (3.99m). Bonnie Draxler also competed in the pole vault, but did not clear a height.

Sophomore Simone Glenn finished fourth in heat No. 5 and 23rd overall in the 200, moving onto Saturday's quarterfinal in the process.

San Diego State will have three student-athletes competing in tomorrow's final day of the NCAA prelims. Brown will race in the quarterfinals for the 100 hurdles (7:05 p.m. CT), Glenn in 200 quarterfinals at 7:35 p.m. CT and Burrell is entered in the shot put set to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
