SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State catcher Seby Zavala has been named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball magazine for his performance during last week's Mountain West Tournament in Reno, Nev.

Zavala was named the Most Valuable Player of the tourney after hitting .435 (10-for-23) over SDSU's six games. He recorded a pair of doubles and hit five home runs including at least one in four consecutive contests. Two of his homers came against tournament top-seed Nevada in SDSU's 9-7 victory that eliminated the regular-season conference champs.

The junior from West Covina, Calif., finished the tourney with 11 RBI and also drew four walks. For the week he compiled a 1.174 slugging percentage along with a .536 on-base percentage.

With the Mountain West Tournament championship came the league's automatic bid to the NCA Regionals and the Aztecs have been assigned to the Lake Elsinore Regional where they will face host UC Santa Barbara on Friday, May 29, at 7:00 p.m.
