LOS ANGELES -- The San Diego State softball had its season come to an end with an 8-0, six-inning loss to No. 8/7 UCLA in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional Sunday at Easton Stadium. The Aztecs finished 2015 with a 38-20 record, while the Bruins (48-10) advanced to the NCAA Super Regional to face Missouri.

SDSU, one of just 20 schools in the country to play in a NCAA tournament at least eight consecutive years, finished the year with seven school records, including batting average (.310), slugging percentage (.486), runs (324), home runs (63), RBIs (293), total bases (758) and hits (484).

Additionally, San Diego State advanced to the NCAA Regional final for the third time since 2011 and fifth time in 11 tournament trips.

UCLA got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning as Delaney Spaulding led off the game with her 19th home run of the season. The Bruins later loaded the bases in the inning on a double, hit by pitch and an Aztec error, but sophomore pitcher Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) struck out Gabrielle Maurice looking and got Mysha Sataraka to ground out to junior third baseman Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) to end the threat. Earlier in the inning, Romero (36-17) struck out Stephany LaRosa looking as well.

The Aztecs loaded the bases as well in the bottom of the first on a single by senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS), and walks by freshmen Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.). Junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.), however, who had replaced Jordan at first after grounding into a fielder's choice, was thrown out at home after a pitch scooted past LaRosa behind the plate.

UCLA loaded the bases once again in the second on an infield single and two walks. With one out, Ally Carda drew a walk to score Gracie Goulder. LaRosa, the Bruins' cleanup hitter, batting .376 with 17 home runs and 60 RBIs on the season, was up next and Romero got her to line into a double play to Ruiz at second base, keeping the damage to a minimum.

The score would stay 2-0 until the fifth, when LaRosa singled up the middle and moved to second on a groundout by Maddy Jelenicki. With two outs, Maurice took the first pitch she saw over the left-center field wall, making it 4-0 UCLA.

The Bruins put the game away in the sixth with a solo homer by Kylee Perez and a three-run home run by LaRosa.

SDSU mounted one last comeback in the bottom of the sixth as senior Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) drew a pinch-hit walk and senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) singled through the left side in her final at-bat. UCLA's Carda, however, got Peres to ground out to second base to clinch the NCAA Los Angeles Regional title.

Sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) joined Bauer and Jordan with singles for San Diego State, while Connors, Peres and Stewart reached via walk.

Romero took the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits, five walks and a hit batter over 5 1/3 innings. She struck out three before being relieved in the top of the sixth inning, having thrown the Aztecs' previous 953 pitches. Stewart replaced Romero and retired the two batters she faced.

Today marked the final game for seven SDSU seniors, including Bauer, Jacki Campa (La Verne, Calif.), Connors, Briana Gamm (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), Jordan, Victoria Kobold (Concord, Calif.) and Miles.
