COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State scored the tying run in the ninth and the winning run one inning later as it defeated Air Force, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Falcon Field in Colorado Springs. The game was the completion of Saturday's contest that was suspended after the top of the sixth due to weather. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions

The win improved the Aztecs to 33-18 overall and they finish with a record of 19-10 in the Mountain West. With the cancellation of the second game SDSU clinched second place in the league standings and will have a bye in the first round of the conference tournament that begins on May 22 in Reno.

The game began as a pitchers' duel between SDSU's Mark Seyler and Air Force's Jacob DeVries although neither would be around at the end to figure in the decision.

The Falcons (21-26, 10-16 MW) scored their lone run in the contest against Seyler in the bottom of the second. Bradley Haslam doubled to right and came home on an RBI single by Justin Graham. Seyler would go six innings allowing the lone run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Air Force's DeVries, meanwhile, was keeping the Aztec hitter off balance and he surrendered just three singles and three walks while striking out seven over his 6.1 innings of work. He gave way To Steven Trojan in the top of the seventh after giving up a walk to Seby Zavala and single to Spencer Thornton to put runners at first and third with one out. Trojan got the final two outs to keep the score at 1-0.

San Diego State finally got on the board in the top of the ninth against Falcon reliever Trent Monaghan. Thornton led off with a walk and Alan Trejo was hit by pitch, and the pair moved up to second and third respectively on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Wylie. Danny Sheehan followed with a safety squeeze bunt that allowed Thornton to score the tying run.

With Seyler out of the game after pitching six innings on Saturday, sophomore right-hander Cody Thompson had been brought on to begin the seventh. He would go the final four innings allowing a hit and a walk, both of which came in the seventh. He would retire nine in a row from the eighth through 10th innings, finishing with four strikeouts en route to the win to even his record at 4-4.

In the top of the 10th, Ty France was hit by pitch with one out. It marked the 16th time the Aztec third baseman was hit in 2015 as he established a new SDSU single-season record. Zavala followed with a single to right center before Andrew Brown doubled down the right field line to bring home France with the winning run.

San Diego State will wrap up its regular season with a three-game home series against St. Mary's that gets underway on Thursday, May 14, at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
