DENVER - The fifth-seeded San Diego State women's lacrosse team saw its season come to end Thursday after falling to No. 4 seed Colorado 15-6 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament on a rainy evening at Peter Barton Stadium on the University of Denver campus.

With the loss, the Aztecs finish the 2015 campaign with a 9-8 record, while the Buffaloes (11-6) advance to the semifinals where they will face top-seeded Stanford on Friday.

SDSU fell for just third time this year when scoring first (6-3), taking a 1-0 lead on senior Grace Korandovich's (Columbus, Ohio) free position shot with just 1:30 elapsed in the game, before CU responded with two goals by Darby Kiernan over a minute apart to grab a 2-1 edge by the 21:54 mark of the first half.

Shortly thereafter, the Aztecs got the equalizer on an unassisted strike by junior Andrea Killebrew (Las Vegas, Nev.) with 16:08 to go in the period. However, the Buffaloes unleashed a 10-0 blitz during the remainder of the half and the first 7:28 of the second period to build an insurmountable 12-2 advantage.

SDSU tried to make a game of it, crafting a 4-1 spurt over a six-minute span, punctuated by two Alexa Comfort (Manahawkin, N.J.) goals to narrow the gap to 13-6 with 15:08 left. However, CU managed to keep the Scarlet and Black off the board the rest of the way, adding two tallies to provide the final outcome.

Individually, the Buffaloes were paced by Kiernan's game-high five goals, while Johnna Fusco and Katie Macleay each finished with a hat trick. Conversely, senior Michaela Jarvis (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Vickie Porter (Poway, Calif.) completed the scoring for the Aztecs with a single goal each.

Despite maintaining a 13-10 edge in draw controls, including three by senior Christina Ricciardulli (Poway, Calif.), SDSU found itself on the wrong side of the ledger in shots on goal (25-13) and ground balls (22-16).

Sophomore goalkeeper Katrina Reeves (Granite Bay, Calif.) made eight saves in front of the cage and collected seven ground balls for the Aztecs before giving way to fellow classmate Katie Merritt (Danville, Calif.) with almost 10 minutes gone by in the second half. On the flip side, CU net-minder Paige Soenksen turned away seven shots in the victory.
