SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State scored four runs over the opening three innings and went on to a 5-3 victory over Cal State Northridge Tuesday evening at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The win was the third straight for the Aztecs, who improved to 30-16 on the year.

SDSU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when a single by Steven Pallares and walk to Ty France were cashed in by Andrew Brown's two-out two-run triple down the right field line.

The Aztecs added two more on solo home runs by Spencer Thornton and Danny Sheehan in the second and third inning respectively to give the home side a 4-0 lead.

San Diego made it 5-0 with their final run in the sixth. Chase Calabuig walked, stole second and advanced to third when the throw on his steal attempt went into center field. After a walk to Thornton, Alan Trejo executed a sacrifice safety squeeze to allow Calabuig to come home.

SDSU starting pitcher Cody Thompson kept the Matadors (26-17) off the board until the seventh when Chester Pak led off with a triple and scored on a ground out to shortstop. Thompson would go seven innings allowing the run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He would be credited with the win to improve his record to 2-4.

CSUN scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the ninth with the help of two Aztec errors before CJ Saylor came on to get the final out and notch his 10th save of the year.

Brown ended the evening with three hits and two RBI while France added a pair of singles and scored once.

Up next for the Aztecs is a three-game Mountain West series against UNLV this weekend at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The first game is set for Friday, May 1, at 6:00 p.m.
