ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
With only Nevada standing in the way of the Aztecs advancing to the championship match, the San Diego State men's tennis team could not spark a rally to get there. SDSU fell, 4-1, to the Wolf Pack on Saturday morning, ending its run at the Mountain West Championship. The Aztecs finish the season at 18-9.
In doubles play, Robert Margitfalvi and Ryan Andrada topped Thorsten Bertsch and Jonas Meinzer in the second spot, 6-2. On the third court, Robert Allan and Moez Chargui claimed the point for Nevada by defeating Marko Goles-Babic and Santiago Cevallos, 6-4.
SDSU would need to rally in singles play in order to take the win. In the second position, Andrada gave Nevada its second point by topping Hendrik Jebens, 6-4, 6-2. In the third spot, Andrew Poustie defeated Bertsch to put Nevada within one point of victory, 6-2, 6-2. In the fourth position, Goles-Babic put the Aztecs on the board by downing Fernando Sunagom, 6-3, 6-3. Court No. 6 saw the decider as Margitfalvi clinched the win by defeating Saxon Buehnig, 6-4, 6-1.
After coming just short of the championship match, No. 38 SDSU will now await word if it will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA tennis selection show is set for Tuesday, April 28 at 2:30 pm PT.
