SDSU-WYOMING BOX SCORE

On Friday morning, the quarterfinal match between SDSU and Wyoming was moved indoors to the Linda Estes Tennis Complex due to inclement weather. The change in scenery saw the San Diego State women's tennis team drop its early lead over Wyoming, ultimately falling 4-3. With the loss the Aztecs time at the Mountain West Championships comes to a close. SDSU finishes the season at 13-11 overall.

San Diego State got off to a good start with Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen defeating Jessica Parizher and Magdalena Stencel in the second spot, 6-4. The Cowgirls fought back as Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva battled Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn in the top spot. The Wyoming duo took the match to tiebreaker and the win, 7-6 (9-7). Court No. 3 saw Dora Somoracz and Paola Diaz de Regules do just enough to take the match and claim the point for SDSU over Dorottya Jonas and Silviya Zhelyazkova, 7-5.

In singles play, Wyoming sparked a rally as Jonas topped Kennedy Davis in the third spot, 6-2, 6-0. In the second position, Nguyen fought back for the Aztecs as she downed Nastya Tokareva, 6-4, 6-3. In the fourth spot, Parizher evened things up for the Cowgirls as she defeated Johnson, 6-3, 6-3. On court No. 1, Stencel gave Wyoming its first lead of the day as she got past Buth, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). The lead change would not deter the Aztecs as Diaz finished off Gecheva, 6-4, 6-4, to knot the score once again. With the score at 3-3, the deciding match came down to court No. 6. Somoracz had taken an early lead by claiming the first set but dropped the second. The Aztecs' fate came down to the tiebreaker and Somoracz was outlasted by Zhelyazkova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Friday's loss is the earliest exit for the Aztecs since 2011 when SDSU fell to Wyoming in the quarterfinal by the same score as today's match, 4-3.
