ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State junior Tami Nguyen was named one of the Mountain West Conference's all-singles players on Wednesday evening at the league's postseason banquet. Nguyen is the lone Aztec women's tennis player receiving a conference honor this season.
The Muntinlupa City, Philippines native posted a 21-9 overall record, 17-6 dual match mark and went 2-2 in conference play. The 17-6 dual match mark all came in the second position. In league action, Nguyen's two losses were results of playing members of No. 59 San Jose State and No. 39 Fresno State.
The Aztecs junior was tabbed as the Mountain West Player of the Week for the week of February 26. Nguyen was instrumental in SDSU's upset of No. 37 Arizona. Nguyen toppled No. 113 Briar Preston to clinch the win for San Diego State. The win over the Wildcats snapped a five-match skid for the Aztecs and led to a four-match win streak to turn the season around.
The fourth-seeded Aztecs will begin play against face fifth-seeded Wyoming on Friday at 9 a.m. MT at the Mountain West Championship in Albuquerque, N.M.
