SDSU 8, CSU 4 | VIDEO REPLAY

Senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the San Diego State softball team to an 8-4 victory over Colorado State Sunday afternoon in Fort Collins, Colo.

Sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) added a three-run home run, giving the Aztecs (30-17, 13-5 MW) three in the game and seven for the three-game weekend series, which SDSU won, 2-1.

Bauer had a two-run homer over the center field fence in the top of the first inning and a three-run blast to center field in the fourth. She now has 14 for the year and 55 for her career. It was the sixth time of her career that she had multiple homers in a game. In the process, Bauer broke San Diego State's single-season RBI record and now has 53 on the year. Patrice Jackson (2014), Bauer (2013) and senior Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) (2012) had been tied for first at 49.

The Aztecs took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Bauer's first homer and Cable's three-run home run.

The Rams (23-24, 4-11 MW) answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half, starting with a sacrifice fly by Danielle Wikre and ending with a two-run homer by Taylor Hutton.

Bauer's fourth-inning three-run home run put SDSU back up by five at 8-3.

It would stay that way for a few innings as sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) left the bases loaded in back-to-back innings in the fourth and fifth. CSU, however, would scrap together one more run in the sixth when a single down the right field line by Shae Rodriguez scored Haley Hutton.

Bauer led the way with the two home runs, five RBIs and two runs, while Cable was 2-for-2 with a three-run homer, a walk, a hit by pitch and a run. Junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) added two hits and two runs, senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had a single, run and a walk, and junior Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) walked twice and scored a run.

Romero (28-14) picked up the win after allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks over seven innings, while striking out one.

San Diego State returns home to play host to New Mexico in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
