SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team took three of five races over UC San Diego on Friday morning, including the varsity eight and varsity four. The two San Diego schools met up on Mission Bay for a dual race.

The varsity eight race kicked off competition this morning at 7 a.m. The opening event proved to be the closest race of the day. San Diego State crossed the finish line with a time of 6 minutes, 34.6 seconds, edging UC San Diego which finished with a time of 6:35.8.

The open eight race got underway at 7:10 a.m. and was the first of two that the Aztecs would drop. The Tritons topped SDSU by a sizeable margin. UCSD clocked in at 6:56.1 followed by San Diego State at 7:18.0.

The second varsity eight race would be the second and final decision that the Tritons would claim. UCSD finished just ahead of the Aztecs. UC San Diego finished with a time of 6:44.1 and SDSU with a time of 6:47.4.

In the varsity four event, San Diego State posted an impressive margin of victory. The Aztecs finished with a time of 7:13.1 while the Tritons crossed the line with a time of 7:41.0.

In the second varsity four race SDSU entered two boats, both of which finished ahead of UC San Diego. SDSU's `A' crew finished with a time of 7:31.3, SDSU's `B' boat posted a time of 7:38.5 and UCSD's crew recorded a time of 7:47.6.

San Diego State will next travel to the WIRA Championships in Rancho Cordova, Calif., which will be held on April 25-26.
