SAN DIEGO -
After traveling across town for the annual rivalry match, the San Diego State women's tennis team dismissed San Diego, 4-0. The match was held at Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center on the campus of USD. With the victory, the Aztecs now hold a 12-10 overall mark.
Doubles competition kicked off the event with Dora Somoracz and Paola Diaz de Regules coming out of the gate in dominating fashion on the third court. The Aztec duo did not allow Shani Blecher and Janine Koleta to score a point, blanking the Torero duo, 6-0. The 80th-ranked team of Drew Spinosa and Dana Oppinger evened things up for USD as they defeated Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn in the top spot, 6-2. Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen clinched the point for SDSU as they topped Marta Stojanovic and Mikayla Morkel-Brink in the second spot, 6-2.
With one point in hand, the Aztecs only had to claim three additional points for the win. On court No. 5, Diaz notched the second point by downing Blecher, 6-2, 6-3. In the second position, Nguyen rallied back after dropping the first set to Stojanovic to record the third point for San Diego State, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. The top spot saw Buth also comeback from being one set down to seal the victory for SDSU as she defeated Spinosa, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. With the match settled, the action on the remaining courts was halted with Kennedy Davis, Johnson and Somoracz all en route to rallying after each dropping the first set.
San Diego State will return home to Aztec Tennis Center to celebrate Senior Day and face UC San Diego on Friday. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
