The San Diego State women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to 39th-ranked Fresno State on Sunday. The Aztecs fell behind early in doubles play and couldn't spark a rally in singles action to overcome the deficit, falling at Aztec Tennis Center. With the loss, SDSU now holds an 11-10 overall mark and finish 2-2 in conference play.
In doubles action, Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen fell to Anneka Watts and Sophie Watts in the second spot, 6-2. In the third position, Dora Somoracz and Paola Diaz de Regules evened things up with a win over Tanya Murtagh and Sofya Malysheva, 6-2. In the top spot, Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn could not get past Maiar Sherif Ahmed and Rana Sherif Ahmed, 6-4, resulting in the Bulldogs picking up the point.
In singles play, Nguyen fell to Maiar Sherif Ahmed in the second spot, 6-0, 6-3. On court No. 1, 70th-ranked Sophie Watts topped Buth, 6-2, 7-5, to put Fresno State within a point of victory. In the third position, Kennedy Davis put the Aztecs on the board as she downed Rana Sherif Ahmed, 7-5, 6-3. With the score 3-1 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs, Anne Susdorf would decide the match by defeating Somoracz in the sixth spot, 6-3, 6-2. Despite Johnson on court No. 4 and Diaz on court No. 5 both being ahead, up one set, the match was called with a final score of 4-1.
Up next, the Aztecs will face San Diego on April 15 and UC San Diego on April 17 before heading into the post season.
