On Friday afternoon, the San Diego State women's tennis team displayed dominance over the visiting Rebels with a 5-0 sweep. The Aztecs claimed the doubles point and three singles victories to decide the match. With the win, SDSU is now 11-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
In doubles competition, Dora Somoracz and Paola Diaz de Regules dismissed Iren Kotseva and Alexis Garrett in the third spot, 6-2. Tami Nguyen and Hailey Johnson clinched the point by downing Santa Shumilina and Paola Artiga on court No. 2, 6-3. With the point claimed, the doubles match on the first court between Aztecs Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn and UNLV's Anett Ferenczi-Bako and Mercedes Lopez Valez was halted.
In singles play, Nguyen made quick work of Ferenczi-Bako in the second position, 6-1, 6-1. In the fifth spot, Diaz de Regules defeated Lopez Valez, 6-0, 6-2. In the third spot, Kennedy Davis defeated Kotseva, 6-3, 6-4. The match was decided on court No. 6 by Somoracz who finished off Garrett, 6-3, 6-2.
San Diego State will look to carry its winning momentum into Sunday's match against No. 39 Fresno State. The Bulldogs are currently sitting atop the Mountain West standing with a perfect 4-0 mark in league play. The Aztecs will aim to knock them off the top spot with first serve set for 11 a.m. at Aztec Tennis Center.
