Aztec Open San Jose State Series with 11-2 Win

SAN JOSE, Calif - San Diego State scored four runs in the top of the opening inning and went on to an 11-2 victory over San Jose State Friday evening at Municipal Stadium in San Jose. With the win the Aztecs improved to 25-10 overall and 13-3 in the Mountain West as they kept pace with Nevada atop the conference standings.

SDSU's four runs in the top of the first came courtesy of an RBI single by Seby Zavala, run-scoring double by Andrew Brown and a two-run homer by Ryan Muno, his third of the season.

Zavala and Brown would both go on to record four hits over the course of the game. Among Zavala's hits was a two-run homer, his team-leading seventh of the year as he had four RBI and two runs scored in the contest. Brown, meanwhile, had two doubles among his four hits, driving in two runs and scoring three times.

Tanner Reibenspies and Chase Calabuig also recorded two hits apiece for the Aztecs as all nine players in the SDSU lineup reached safely at least once.

Aztec starting pitcher Bubba Derby pitched seven innings allowing two runs on five hits with a pair of walks and 10 strikeouts. He would record the win to improve to 4-2 on the season. Sophomore lefty Brett Seeburger tossed the final two shutout innings to secure the victory.

San Diego State and San Jose State will continue their weekend series on Saturday (April 11) when they square off in a game scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
