The San Diego State men's golf team fired an opening round 8-under par 280 and held on during a windy second round to finish just two shots back of second place after 36 holes of the Lamkin San Diego Classic at historic San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Aztecs finished with an 8-over 296 in second round and is in fifth overall at even-par 576, one shot behind North Carolina and San Diego (1-under 575), and two back of Washington (2-under 574).
