SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team escaped Aztec Tennis Center with a 4-3 win over North Texas on Sunday. The victory marks the fourth-straight match that SDSU has claimed. With the win, the 58th-ranked Aztecs' overall record rises to 6-5.
In doubles action, Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer took the first doubles match over Kristin and Jana Buth, 6-3. In the second spot, Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen put the Aztecs on the board as they downed Anastasiya Shestakova and Kamilla Galieva, 6-3. Dora Somoracz and Kennedy Davis clinched the point for SDSU as the duo dismissed Agustina Valenzuela and Ana Sofia Cordero on court No. 3, 7-5.
With a one-point lead in place, Davis extended that mark to 2-0 after finishing off Valenzuela in the third position, 6-4, 7-5. In the first spot, Bardabush put up a point for the Mean Green as she got past Kristin Buth, 6-3, 7-6 (2). On court No. 6, Paola Diaz de Regules brought San Diego State within a point of victory as she downed Cordero, 6-3, 6-2. Senior Johnson was the decider as she finished off Sprinkmeyer on the fifth court after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. With the match in hand, Nguyen continued to battle but ultimately fell to Shestakova in the second spot, 7-6 (5). 6-4. The final match on the court also went into extras as Jana Buth's rally fell short, falling to Galieva in the fourth position, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
Up next, San Diego State will travel to Los Angeles to face No. 3 USC on March 11. First serve at Marks Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m.
