FULLERTON, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team swept a doubleheader on the final day of the Judi Garman Classic Sunday in Fullerton, Calif. The Aztecs (15-8) defeated Long Beach State, 6-2, in the opener, then beat host Cal State Fullerton, 9-3.

SDSU used the long ball to get most of its runs, combining for five homers over the two games, including one in each contest by senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Sophomore right-hander Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.), meanwhile, pitched all 14 innings of the doubleheader to pick up a pair of wins and improve to 13-5 on the season.

In the opener, three San Diego State players - freshman Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.), Cable and Bauer - hit a home run to account for five of the Aztecs' runs in the 6-2 victory. Stewart hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, the first of her career, Cable hit a solo one in the fourth and Bauer nailed a two-run home run in the sixth.

SDSU scored its other run in the seventh when junior Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) reached home on a 49er (10-16) fielding error.

Jordan led the San Diego State offense with three hits, including a double, and a stolen base, while junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) added two hits and two runs.

Romero got the win in the circle after allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks over seven innings, while striking out six. She stranded eight LBSU baserunners in the game.

In the nightcap, the Titans (14-12) showed flashes, holding the Aztecs scoreless through two innings, but SDSU had the green light at the plate, scoring at least one run in each of the final five innings in the 9-3 triumph. San Diego State outhit CSF, 12-8, in the contest, but left 12 runners on base.

Cable and Bauer both had a two-run homer, Cable's coming in the top of the third and Bauer's in the seventh. Bauer added a double and a walk, and scored three times. She now has 45 career home runs, once shy of Patrice Jackson's school record of 46.

Jordan led the Aztec offense once again with three hits, including two doubles, a run and a stolen base. She finished the weekend with a .600 average (12-for-20), six RBIs, six doubles, four runs and two stolen bases as SDSU went 4-1.

Freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) added two hits, while junior Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) had an RBI double, a run and two walks.

Romero picked up her second win of the day, scattering three runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks over seven innings, while striking out six. She finished the weekend with a 4-0 record and a 2.00 ERA over 28 innings of work.

San Diego State co-hosts the 15-team, 36-game San Diego Classic II this weekend, beginning Thursday with games against Brigham Young (4:30 p.m. PT) and Long Beach State (7 p.m. PT) at SDSU Softball Stadium. The rest of the tournament will be held at Sportsplex USA Santee in Santee, Calif., where the Aztecs are scheduled to play Baylor at 7 p.m. PT Friday and Santa Clara at 7 p.m. PT Saturday.
