FULLERTON, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team defeated Iowa, 7-2, to split a pair of games Saturday at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The Aztecs' (13-8) 7-2 win came after falling to No. 3/2 Michigan, 10-2, in five innings earlier in the day.

In the nightcap, senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs as SDSU banged out 13 hits in the 7-2 win. Highlighting Jordan's effort was a bases loaded, two-out double to in the bottom of the second inning that put San Diego State up, 3-1.

Three other Aztecs added two hits apiece, including freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.), senior Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) and junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.). Junior Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) scored two runs for SDSU, which scored three times in the fourth and another in the sixth after Jordan's three-run double in the second. UO scored a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead and a late one in the sixth.

Sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) picked up the win in the circle after allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings, while striking out five. The right-hander is now 11-5 on the season.

In the opener, the Wolverines (22-3) pounced on San Diego State with a six-run first and never looked back en route to a 10-2, five-inning victory.

The Aztecs had seven hits against UM, their seventh top-25 opponent of the season, but left seven runners on base, including bases loaded in the first and two on in the second.

Junior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.) was 2-for-2 with a run to pace SDSU, while Jordan started her fantastic day by going 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Peres had San Diego State's other RBI on a sacrifice fly in the second and now has 16 over her last seven games after not driving in a run over the first 12 contests of her career.

Sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) took the loss after giving up five runs on three hits and two walks over a 1/3 of an inning. Freshman Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.) pitched the final 4 2/3 innings of relief, surrendering five runs on nine hits and three walks.

The Aztecs, who have won six of their last eight games, play two more on the final day of the Judi Garman Classic on Sunday. SDSU is schedule to play Long Beach State at 12:30 p.m. PT and tournament host Cal State Fullerton at 5 p.m. PT.
