SDSU 4, PACIFIC 2

The San Diego State softball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit with the final four runs of the game in a 4-2 win over Pacific Friday at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The Aztecs (12-7) have now won five of their last six games.

The Tigers (6-15) got on the scoreboard with solo runs in the bottom of the first and second inning, thanks to four hits, a walk and a hit batter.

SDSU, however, came storming back with two runs in the top of the third to tie it and another two in the fourth to seal the win.

In the third, junior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.) drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a single to right field by senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS). Freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.), who on Tuesday was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, followed with another single to right field to score Camello and move Jordan to third. Senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) then ripped a double to left field to score Jordan with the tying run. San Diego State ended up leaving two runners on base in the inning.

The Aztecs took their first lead in the fourth, scoring two runs with two outs on four hits and an error. Junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) got things going with a two-out single through the right side, before moving to second on a wild pitch. Camello followed with a single to left field, allowing Ruiz to move to third, and stole second, giving SDSU a pair of runners in scoring position. Jordan then reached on a UP error, which allowed Ruiz to score the eventual game-winning run. Peres gave San Diego State an insurance run next with a single to left field to plate Camello.

Bauer, Peres and Ruiz each had two hits apiece to pace the Aztec offense. Peres now has 14 RBIs over her last five games after not recording one over the first 12 contests of her career. Camello added two runs on a single, a walk and her first stolen base at SDSU.

Sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) settled down after giving up two runs over the first two innings. The right-hander ended up allowing just the two runs on eight hits (all singles) and three walks over seven innings, striking out five. She won her fourth straight decision and is 10-5 on the season.

San Diego State returns to action Saturday with back-to-back games against No. 3/2 Michigan (10 a.m. PT) and Iowa (12:30 p.m. PT).
