LAS VEGAS, Nev. - San Diego State scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 deadlock and went on to defeat UNLV, 7-3, Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep of the Rebels in Las Vegas. With the victory SDSU, which has won seven of its last eight outings, improved to 22-6 overall and 10-2 in the Mountain West to remain atop the league standings.

The Aztecs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in both the second and third innings. A sacrifice fly by David Hensley in the second and Steve Pallares' solo home run, his fourth of the season, in the third provided the SDSU RBI.

Aztec sophomore Marcos Reyes turned in another solid pitching performance, but was victimized by an error in the bottom of the fourth that helped the Rebels rally for a pair of unearned runs to tie the contest at 2-2.

San Diego State regained the lead in the top of the sixth when it scored three times courtesy of an RBI double by Chase Calabuig and a two-run single by Ty France.

The hosts closed to within 5-3 on a solo home run in the bottom of the same inning, but that's as close as they would come the rest of the way.

Reyes would go on to complete eight innings of work during which he allowed the three runs (one earned) on nine hits with no walks and three strikeouts. He would be credited with the win to improve to 4-0 on the season while lowering his earned run average to 2.97.

UNLV Starter Blaze Bohall, who like Reyes had also entered the contest with a 3-0 record, suffered his first loss of the year after surrendering four earned runs on seven hits over his five innings.

The Aztecs added a pair of insurance runs in their half of the eighth inning on a two-out two-run double by France. That hit came after Hensley was hit by pitch and Pallares walked.

Relievers Brian Heldman and Brett Seeburger combined to toss a shutout bottom of the ninth to seal the win for SDSU.

France finished the afternoon with three hits and four runs batted in while Calabuig also had three hits, an RBI and a run scored.

San Diego State will now head home where it will host Brigham Young for a game on Monday, March 30, at 3:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
